MCB Quantico, Va. – TBS tested their skills against the # 1 Ranked team MCAF. Also in a double header, Air Force OSI took on MCNOSC and NHC on August 26, to help keep them clinch a spot in the playoffs.

In the start of Game 1, MCAF showed why their ranked # 1 in the NL league. By the 5th inning MCAF already took a commanding lead over TBS 11 to 2.

Down by 9 runs with almost 2/3 of the game complete, some of the TBS fans in the stands were looking for a nothing short a motivating Miracle.

Even though TBS was down, they were not out. Keeping MCAF from putting them further in hole, TBS scores an amazing 5 runs. Making the score 11-7 in the 6th inning.

Slowly but surely, the underdog TBS were making a comeback. By the last inning the score was tied 11 to 11. TBS did a spectacular job catching up. But they didn’t want to just catch up they wanted it all.

At the bottom of the 9th one great hit gave the team exactly what they needed to take the win and beat the top rank team. “It feels good, said Derrick AlDerete, the coach for TBS. “It was a great game, it shows that it doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish.”

In Game 2, it was Air force OSI against the Marine Corps NOSC. The two teams were pretty evenly matched. Going head to head, hit by hit, neither team was planning to just give this game away.
There were plenty of base hits throughout the game. That was until the bottom of the 6th, where Air force had the 1st inside-the-park homerun.

The homerun must have had sparked something within the team. From that point on AFOSI was on fire, scoring more inside-the-park homeruns as well as doubles plays.

By the end of the game the AFOSI had gone from being neck and neck to winning the game 16 to 12.
“Well we tried, said Robert Ellis, the coach for MCNOSC. “We started off good with some special plays keeping the game close. It’s ok though, we’ll definitely build on something for next year.”

Finishing out Friday nights double header, AFOSI could stop to celebrate quite yet. They had to step back up to the plate to face the Naval Health Clinic (NHC) in game 3.

As soon as the top of the 1st inning began NHC was moving like a well-oiled machine. Starting the evening off with a bang, NHC scored the 1ST homerun of the night by Drew Nickelson.
NHC was not done yet, immediately following that play was an inside the park homerun!

NHC was on a roll and they kept it on going, by scoring a run one after another. By the end of the first half the NHC were already in the double digits.

AFOSI was trying their best to keep up, but from the look on faces that were drenched in sweat, that they were on their last leg.
“When you play one game with all you got,” said Brett Sims, the coach for the AFOSI. “ Then you’re scheduled to play the next one as well, it bound to ware on you stamina wise.”

When it look like it couldn’t get any worse for the AFOSI, two cracks happen. The first being NHC at bat hitting the ball straight down the middle.

The second, being the sound of an unprotected finger potentially breaking after being nailed by the ball as it came down the middle. Timmy Lendes, an in-fielder for the AFOSI, whose finger was damaged, was a trooper and wanted to stay in the game but could not because of the potential safety hazard in doing so.

To make things worse the AFOSI had the minimum amount of players to play, so the game was called to an end. The final score had NHC on top beating the AFOSI 12 to 1.

“Because of leave and the potential hurricane,” Sims said.” We had the all of our players this time around. It’s ok though, because we still have a couple of games left and we could definitely still make the playoffs.”
