FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The 107th Airlift Wing got the call on Nov, 2nd, 2012. The New York Army National Guard made the request. Help was needed in the Queens area hit big time from Hurricane Sandy. When it comes to a fast response for domestic emergency it’s the National Guard. And that‘s where the 107th comes to help with a joint effort with the New York Army National Guard.

Moving the needed supplies to a disaster area is what the New York Air National Guard does in a moment’s notice. Our one weekend a month airmen, are there for the call. On this mission 30,000 bottles of water was airlift to Farmingdale, N.Y. just outside Queens.

“This is what is needed now for this area,” said Major Roberto DeMarquez, New York Army National Guard. “My troops are helping out in Queens and fresh water is what is in short supply,”

The 107th with the C-130 aircraft can move any type of cargo and fly in to small airports. When the state is in need of help the National Guard is there. And the Air and Army National Guard work together to help our fellow citizens.
“This is my first humanitarian mission and I’m proud to do my part to help,” said Senior Airman Shaun Pierce, Loadmaster for the 107th.
