FORT LEE, Va. - Conflicts of interest, post-employment restrictions, integrity and Defense Contract Management Agency values were all highlights of the agency’s recent annual ethics training at the Larkin Conference Center here.
“The first part of training goes through the regulations and ethics guidelines that all employees must comply with,” said Jessica VanLeeuwen, DCMA senior associate general counsel for ethics and personnel. The second part is a separate initiative which covers core values and integrity.
The training kicked off with VanLeeuwen explaining to the group the concept of live training and how the environment is meant to be interactive. She said the purpose of doing live training is so instructors can answer questions, provide immediate feedback and add clarity to information.
“My role, and what I’m supposed to be doing during the training, is providing information and clearing up any misunderstandings,” said VanLeeuwen. “We encourage questions because chances are that other people in the room have the same concerns.”
Following the overview, VanLeeuwen engaged DCMA personnel as she covered the topics of conflicts of interest, restrictions with speaking and writing engagements, post-employment restrictions, fundraising in the workplace and provisions under the Hatch Act of 1939.
The training satisfies the requirements in the Joint Ethics Regulation, Department of Defense Directive 5500.07-R, which mandates annual training is conducted in a live format once every three years. This training includes both the mandatory annual training and the DCMA values based training; all DCMA personnel are required to complete the requirement before the end of year.
