CAMP SHORABAK, Afghanistan -- The Afghan National Army's 4th Brigade has arrived here to conduct RSOI (Reception, Staging, Onward movement and Integration) training, having just graduated basic training in Kabul.

Reception and integration training helps orient new soldiers, including Coalition forces, to their area of operations and helps raise awareness of what is to be expected in the operational environment.

The courses are designed to teach the type of Corps-level skills needed for the complex environment of Helmand province.

For example, IED awareness and defeat capabilities will be taught, but also, due to the high number of vehicle incidents and injuries to ANA personnel, a driver safety course is part of the training.

This is the first RSOI class for the ANA's 215th Corps and is part of the overall professional development of the Afghan National Army.

"This is a milestone toward the transition to sustainment level training capabilities resident within the 215th ANA Corps," said Terry Walker, special assistant to the Commanding General of Regional Command Southwest for the training and development of the Afghan National Security Forces.

The 215th Maiwand Corps Chief of Staff, Gen. Zamen Hussan, welcomed the soldiers of the 4th Brigade to RSOI training.

“If we conduct good and precise planning, our unit will perform in a better way, and we will have better results,” said Gen. Hussan. “Good planning is a necessity. We must always have good and complete preparation. This will prevent problems during patrols.”
