    CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Staff Sgt. Travis Wood, of Cedar City, Utah, retired from the Wyoming Army National Guard recently, following a medical discharge due to injuries sustained while deployed to Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, in 2006.

    He most recently served as mechanic with the 960th Maintenance Company, in Torrington, Wyo. He also served in the 133rd Engineer Company, in Laramie, Wyo.

    Wood began his military career as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and wrecker recovery specialist with the Utah Army National Guard’s 222nd Field Artillery Battalion, in 2002. He deployed with the 960th Maintenance Company, in 2005, in support of Hurricane Katrina, and with the 207th Infantry Battalion, in 2006.

    During his career, Wood received the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, and the Good Conduct Medal.

    Wood lives in Cedar City, Utah, and is a student at Southern Utah University.
