    Operation Onward Liberty

MONROVIA, Liberia – Members of Operation Onward Liberty and armed forces of Liberia engineers are donating 170 newly-constructed blackboards to local schools in Margibi County.
It only took one week for AFL engineers, assisted by members of U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three, to build the blackboards.

This is the second phase of the program to donate blackboards to Liberian schools. The project began in 2008 with blackboards constructed and donated to schools in Monsterrado and Grand Cape Mount counties. The 170 blackboards will be used by 20 schools throughout Margibi County.

Reverend K. Melton Seleweyan, representative of the International Association of Educators for World Peace, accepted the blackboards on behalf of the schools at a ceremony August 31 at Edward Binyah Kesselly Military Barracks.

“I am very thankful to the American government for helping us,” said Seleweyan. “These blackboards will help to improve the penmanship of our students from a primary level, and it is our hope that this is just the beginning. We have already seen a lot of improvement from the first project.”

This humanitarian project, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, directly supports the mission of OOL in its efforts to mentor and advise the AFL to develop a national military that is responsible, operationally capable and is a force for good among the Liberian people.

Members of OOL will work with AFL engineers to transport the blackboards to the International Association of Educators for World Peace for distribution throughout the county.
