GULFPORT, Miss. - With Hurricane Isaac continuing to bear down on Mississippi, the state's Army and Air National Guard units provided support directly and through their work with state agencies.
With President Obama speaking directly with Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, the state's leader was able to share with the president how the Mississippi is responding to the hurricane's impact.
Part of that response is how the state's National Guard contingency has actively participated in military specific missions while also lending a helping hand to state agencies.
On the first full day of the storm, Mississippi National Gardsmen participated in rescue operations, patrols and even assisted the Red Cross in food distribution.
