HERAT, Afghanistan – The Italian air force Predator A+ (Unmanned Air Vehicle) has completed 1000 operational missions and 9000 flight hours in support of the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) multinational coalition operating in the Afghan territory.
The two UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicle) of "ASTORE" Task Group have been used in support of ground forces of the entire coalition, exploiting the qualities of persistence, endurance and low detectability, and in addition with the ability to achieve high altitudes, it has carried out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. One of the most critical has been the overwatch in support of ground operations, escorting convoys and doing activities to protect ground forces and the civilian population.
The daily task done in Afghanistan with two remote piloted aircraft, has had a direct impact on operations and has provided a highly effective mean to protect our troops on the ground, highlighting the exceptional balance cost / benefit typical of unmanned aircraft.
The Task Group "ASTORE" is part of the Joint Air Task Force (JATF) which manages the air assets assigned to ISAF Regional Command West in Herat.
