MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. - Lt. Col. Eric S. Wise relinquished command of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron to Lt. Col. Walter S. Lee during a change of command ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, July 17.

Wise served as the H&HS commanding officer from June 2010 to July 2012 and retired from the Marine Corps after serving 21 years.

Col. Jeffrey M. Hewlett, air station commanding officer, spoke of how well Wise commanded the squadron and how Lee will continue on with the outstanding performance of H&HS.

“You have taken a very difficult and often thankless job and made it look easy and have done it superbly,” said Hewlett.

Hewlett commended H&HS and Wise on their abilities to overcome the challenges that come from supporting the air station.

“The fruits of your efforts have a tremendous and positive impact on the air station and its tenets,” said Hewlett.

Wise could not have accomplished all the great things without the support of the Marines and their families.

“My last two years here on New River have been nothing short of extraordinary due to you all,” said Wise. “You have impressed me with every inspection we go through. You come through with flying colors and exceed every expectation. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.”

Attention was brought to Lee as Hewlett welcomed him to H&HS.

“You have a very strong record, and I’m sure that you will do exceedingly well,” said Hewlett. “The Marines are going to look to you for leadership, and I’m sure that you will provide it.”

Hewlett ended his speech by thanking Wise again for everything he has done for the squadron, the air station and the Marine Corps.

“You have done an outstanding job as a squadron commander,” said Hewlett. “It’s been very easy as station commander having you as my H&HS commander.”

Col. Scott S. Jensen, Marine Aircraft Group 29 commanding officer, who has known Wise for 19 of his 21 years of service, spoke of Wise’s passion for the Marine Corps.

“His passion for the mission, to know the details, and make aviation, Marines and the Marine Corps better were always driving and quite honestly a challenge to keep up with,” said Jensen.

During Wise’s speech he welcomed Lee and spoke highly of the Marines.

“Welcome to the squadron,” said Wise. “I know you will do the best, and trust me, the Marines will not disappoint you when you see what they can do. I know you will do amazing things with the squadron.”

Wise ended his command of H&HS by thanking the Marines one last time.

“It’s been my honor to be your commanding officer, and I really do appreciate it,” Wise said.
