CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — Brig. Gen. Kaiffia Jones marked the end of her command with the 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional), Third Army, during a change of command ceremony at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, July 20.

Brig. Gen. Jones, a San Jose, Calif., native, after over a year in command, passed the colors to Maj. Gen. Steven Smith, in front of a packed gymnasium with over 200 civilians and service members in attendance.

“The 335th Signal Command has been a part of many great historical achievements during my tenure,” said Brig. Gen. Jones. “Soldiers and civilians of the 335th Signal Command, you are an exceptional group of professionals with whom I am proud to take part in working with during some of the most difficult periods in the history of the Signal Corps.”

Smith, who is the former director for the U.S. Army Cyber Directorate, expressed his gratitude to the audience.

“I am honored and excited to be the new commanding general of the 335th Signal Command,” said Smith. “To the soldiers and civilians, I am humbled to lead this incredible command.”

Lt. Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, commanding general of the Third Army, recognized not only Brig. Gen. Jones for her accomplishments but also the entire 335th Signal Command.

“What a record of accomplishment for Brig. Gen. Jones; leading the 335th Signal Command to success after success, after success, in the faces of incredibly tough challenges,” said Brooks. “This army, Third Army, would not be at all ready if we didn’t have you providing us communication and keeping us connected every day.”

The 335th ensures that Third Army maintains a telecommunication infrastructure to effectively and accurately move information, data and communications for the soldiers within the 20-country area of responsibility.
