Chief Master Sgt. Vernitia Johnson, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron, presents Tech. Sgt. Brandon Maxwell, 321st Special Tactics Squadron, with a check for $100 on behalf of the Team Mildenhall Chief's Group at the Community College of the Air Force commencement ceremony May 4 at the Galaxy Club here. The money will be used towards future education expenses.

More than 50 Team Mildenhall airmen received their degree from the Community College of the Air Force during a commencement ceremony May 4 at the Galaxy Club here.

"As the representative for the commander and president of the Community College of the Air Force, I certify these candidates have met the requirements for the associates in applied science degree," said Col. Christopher Kulas, 100th Air Refueling Wing commander.

By the authority of Congress of the United States and in the name of Lt. Gen. David Fadok, commander, Air Education and Training Command, I do hereby confer upon each candidate the degree of associate in applied science."

"Congratulations to the graduates," said Chief Master Sgt. Sarita Lathan, 48th Fighter Wing command chief and commencement guest speaker.

Lathan shared the importance of receiving a higher education during the ceremony.

"It is very important to get a degree that can be used in this environment," said Lathan. "You have to step out of the military ready and armed with as much as you can get in training, education and knowledge, in regards to your future. The military offers that opportunity without going into a lot of debt."

Kulas informed the audience that the spring 2012 graduating class was the largest ever in the history of the Air Force.

"This spring semester, there were more than 9,500 graduates throughout the Air Force," said Kulas. "What does that mean? It means we have the smartest, best educated Air Force in the world. Education is critical to mission success."
