PHOENIX - Members of the 108th Army Band performed at a Memorial Day ceremony held at the National Memorial Cemetery here, May 28.
The annual event attracted thousands of citizens who gathered to remember veterans who sacrificed their lives in service to their nation.
“This event is the highlight of our year,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Tony Gonzalez, commander and bandmaster, 108th Army Band. “There is no greater honor than playing for our fallen soldiers.”
The band performed 10 songs during the ceremony, including the placement of wreaths, reading of the governor’s Memorial Day proclamation and releasing of white doves in honor of veterans who died in battle.
Col. Leslie Montgomery, commander, 198th Regional Support Group, attended the ceremony with her daughter to pay respect to her fellow soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
“The band makes such an impact on the community,” said Montgomery. “I want them to know they are appreciated.”
