News: Regional Command Southwest Operations Update: Afghan National Army and Police make arrests, kill insurgents and capture munitions
HELMAND PROVINCE, Afghanistan - On 9 June, 2012, the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, of the army’s 215th Maiwand Corps, killed two Taliban and captured 1 AK-47 and 1 hand gun while conducting a joint clearing operation in the district of Musa Qala in Helmand. Two anti-vehicle mines were also discovered and disarmed.
Today in the Nawa district of Helmand the Afghan National Army’s 1st unit arrested 4 people who had radios, explosive devices and wires in their vehicle. Also in the Nawa district, the Director of the Taskira for Nawa District was injured by an IED as he entered his office this morning. This is the fourth time he has faced similar explosions in the Nawa district. Separately, an insurgent was arrested carrying an IED weighing 6kg.
