Final local police class in Baghlan-E Jadid district Graduates

BAGHLAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The final class of 46 Afghan Local Police graduated in Baghlan-E Jadid district, Baghlan province, June 7.

“The village elders approved the right people for the ALP in the area,” said Brig. General Assadullah Sherzad, Chief of Police. “Of the 34 provinces, I feel Baghlan is the most secure.”

This graduation is the last class of coalition forces trained ALP in the Baghlan-E Jadid district, which signifies how the ALP have improved security and stability while denying insurgent safe havens within their local communities.

Graduates participated in 21 days of training, learning small unit tactics; human rights; improvised explosive device detection; Afghan Law; use of force; marksmanship and defensive checkpoint operations.

All ALP are selected by their village’s official leaders. They are the “sons of the village” and are committed to the security, growth, and development of their own community.

“We are ready to work for the security of Afghanistan and our villages,” said ALP Commander Haji-Kamal. “Prior to the ALP program there was a lot of crime in our village. Right now, I feel we have good security. With our new training we will rid our country of the insurgent threat.”
