SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran Dan Orsini will take part in a program about the battle for Okinawa at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the New York State Military Museum, 61 Lake Ave. in Saratoga Springs.

The program will include a film, "Okinawa Uncensored," followed by a discussion with Orsini about his personal experiences in this ferocious combat action that cost thousands of American lives.

Orsini, 91, of South Glens Falls, was a Marine Corps master sergeant and a White House Honor Guard member who personally escorted President Franklin D. Roosevelt on numerous occasions before going to the Pacific.

The program is presented by Friends of the New York State Military Museum, which last year named Orsini one of its Veterans of the Year, an honor bestowed on he and two other members of the Greatest Generation.

The program is coordinated by Friends group member and Korean War veteran Gene Corsale of Saratoga Springs, assisted by Saratogian reporter Paul Post. Orsini is one of the 40 local veterans featured in Post's book, "Soldiers of Saratoga County: From Concord to Kabul."
