FARAH, Afghanistan –Members of Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah attended an Afghan Local Police graduation ceremony here Tuesday.
Local government officials gathered at the family compound of Hajji Sultan Mohammed Khan in Dizhak Village to recognize 50 new Afghan Local Police members. The ALP graduates received basic security training to protect local civilians and to help provide stability in the area.
Brig. Gen. Ali Shah Ahmadzai, Afghanistan Local Police Force Director, told the graduates to take care of their equipment and to use their authority wisely. “You are servants of the people. You can better protect them because you know them,” said Ahmadzai. “Don’t let strangers use you as a weapon. Afghans protect their guests and respect their elders. If we have unity, we will annihilate our enemies. Where there is unity, there is peace, there is construction, and there is power.”
Each ALP member received a certificate and their first payment at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Maj. Gen. Abdul Hamid Balkhi, Farah National Directorate of Security Chief congratulated the new Afghan Local Police on their accomplishment. “Other ALP have been successful and you will be the same or better.” said Balkhi.
