FORT CARSON, Colo. – The 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson bid farewell to Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Bailey, departing deputy commanding general for support, during a farewell retreat ceremony held at Founders Field on post, April 24.

“This division has been extremely fortunate and privileged to have Jeff as a deputy commanding general for the past three years,” said Maj. Gen. Joseph Anderson, commanding general, 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson. “He has been a huge asset to this unit, installation and community.”

Bailey served as 4th Inf. Div.’s deputy commanding general for support since November 2011, and previously served as 4th Inf. Div.’s deputy commanding general for maneuver, upon arriving at Fort Carson in July 2009.

During his tenure in the “Ivy” Division, Bailey oversaw the training and development of Iraqi Security Forces in northern Iraq during a 14-month deployment with Task Force Ironhorse.

“Jeff provided the phenomenal leadership and oversight as the DCG for maneuver during the division’s most recent deployment in support of Operation New Dawn,” said Anderson. “His integrity and unrelenting dedication to mission were key in initiating the flawless transfer of U.S. Division-North’s area of operation back to the people and government of Iraq.”

During the ceremony, Anderson presented the Legion of Merit to Bailey for exceptionally meritorious service while serving as the deputy commanding general for maneuver.

“I have been privileged to be a part of training four brigade combat teams as they deployed to Afghanistan, and I was honored to go with the division to Iraq,” said Bailey.

"There’s one thing I will always remember from this assignment; that’s the lesson about the power of people,” said Bailey. “From the vantage point of the DCG, you can see what great people do to an organization.”

Bailey said he will look back at his time with the 4th Inf. Div. with pride and looks forward to continuing his service during his next assignment.

Bailey departs Fort Carson to become the U.S. Forces Command deputy chief of staff at Fort Bragg, N.C.
