Afghan National Army gains newly trained soldiers

KANDAHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - The Afghan National Army Training Command graduated 1,442 soldiers at the Regional Military Training Center in the Kandahar province, Afghanistan, March 15.

Of the total graduating, 1,393 of them were Regional Basic Warrior Training graduates. The rest were soldier students of an eight-week Infantry Non-commissioned Officer Battle course, which taught infantry tactics and skills.

Lt. Gen. Muhammad Akram, the Ministry of Defense deputy chief of staff, was the special guest at the ceremony.

“Today, I can tell the MOD that we have new soldiers who are ready to do their mission,” said Akram during his address to the graduates. “It’s a great day for all of you because you will be helping to get rid of enemies in Afghanistan.”

“Our country needs each of you to help it grow into a better place,” continued Akram. “You’ll be going to different divisions, but it’s your job to help each other. You have a responsibility to protect each other and your country.”

During the ceremony, Afghan National Army and coalition senior leaders handed out certificates of appreciation to the ANA instructors. Maj. Gen. Haroon Momand, RMTC commander, thanked the coalition advisers for their assistance to the RMTC. He also expressed words of encouragement to the new soldiers.

“Whatever you learned from this training, use it well,” said Momand. “I assure you, you will be good soldiers.”

During RBWT, soldiers receive 64 hours of literacy training in addition to basic warrior training. Basic warrior skills include firearms familiarization and qualification, first aid, attack and approach tactics, cover and concealment, base defense, and improvised explosive device familiarization.
