FORT CARSON, Colo. – Capt. Terence Staples and 1st Sgt. Richard Anderson, commander and senior enlisted leader, 110th Military Police Company, 759th Military Police Battalion, cased the company guidon during a ceremony at the Special Events Center on post, March 6, 2012, signifying the unit’s departure from Fort Carson.

Later this month, the MPs will unfurl their guidon in Afghanistan, assuming the mission of advising and training Afghan Police, and conducting security operations in their area of responsibility.

The 110th MP Company soldiers will accomplish missions during their nine-month deployment that could potentially improve millions of lives, said Lt. Col. Christopher Burns, commander, 759th MP Bn.

“Every generation has had to face enemies of freedom, and since this country’s founding, every generation has risen to the occasion, answering freedom’s call on the field of battle,” Burns told the assembled troops. “Today, you heed the call of our fathers … and like them, you will confront evil with courage and conviction.”

Burns told the MPs to take pride in themselves and everything their unit will accomplish during their deployment.

“You guys should be confident in your mission, in your training and your equipment,” he said. “You are one of the best-trained forces in the world. Your Family and friends believe in you; we believe in you; your nation believes in you; and the people of Afghanistan will definitely believe in you.”

Under the leadership of Staples and Anderson, the 110th MP Company will reward that trust with outstanding service, he said.

After months of training, the 110th MP Company soldiers are well-prepared and eager to support operations in Afghanistan, Staples said.

The 110th MP Company leadership based their training regimen on techniques, tactics and procedures provided by units already in Afghanistan.

The MPs focused their training toward weapons proficiency, interaction with the Afghan populace and Improvised Explosive Devise detection.

“This is the third company I have deployed within six years, and they are more than ready,” Staples said. “We have endured a rigorous road to war, and they have all come out shining. I am proud of each and every one of them, and I am proud to be their commander.

The more experienced soldiers of 110th MP Company prepared the unit’s junior Soldiers for deployment, using past experiences to impress the importance of discipline and constant vigilance in a combat zone, said Pfc. Christopher Grover, military policeman, 110th MP Company.

“I am personally excited,” Grover said. “This is why I joined; I want to serve my country, and I want to help the people of Afghanistan find a better life.”
