WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Page, created two years ago, is the Marine Corps’ official flagship social media outlet and has nearly 2 million fans. The Marines Page is one of only a small number of organizations chosen by Facebook to feature this new updated Page.

“As Marines, we take pride in our firsts,” said Greg Reeder, director of Marine Corps Production. “First to fight our nations battles, first to perfect modern amphibious warfare, and leaders in military action and peacekeeping operations around the world. Nearly two years ago, the Corps began embracing the social media community and today leads the way as the largest Department of Defense presence on Facebook.”

The Page allows the Marine Corps to better connect with fans and help share common ties through the Corps, Reeder said.

"New Facebook Pages give government agencies, lawmakers, and political campaigns more engaging ways to tell their stories, and we're excited to see branches of the U.S. military leading the way,” said Joel Kaplan, Vice President – U.S. Public Policy, Facebook.

“We're eager to see others join the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard in embracing new Pages to better to connect with citizens, provide information, and deliver services. As a Marine Veteran, I'm excited that people on Facebook will be able to connect with the rich and motivating history of the United States Marine Corps."

The launch of the new Facebook Pages opens new possibilities for increased interaction and education for Marines and communities worldwide.

“Marines have always had an outstanding connection with their community,” Reeder said. “Our online social presence takes that relationship to a broader scope – giving the Corps a forum for Marines to directly relate, respond and converse with Marines, families and the global public.”
