ZABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the Afghan National Police found an insurgent weapons cache in Arghandab district Feb. 7.
The ANP members located the cache after a local villager notified them he witnessed individuals burying an object in the area.
ANP and members of an Afghan Explosive Ordnance Disposal team inspected the area and unearthed batteries, AK-47 rounds, AK-47 magazines and insurgent death-threat letters.
The letters read “For anyone who works with the Americans, the punishment is death.”
Upon further inspection of the area, the ANP members discovered 25 pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used for bomb making, while searching a nearby compound.
Five men loitering in the vicinity of the compound were questioned by the ANP regarding the findings and were detained for further questioning.
“The villager’s cooperation with the ANP and coalition special operations forces shows villagers are resisting and rejecting the insurgent agenda,” said a coalition SOF representative.
