MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- Cpl. Jene Vang is an embarkation chief with Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 2. He is a native of St. Paul, Minn.
The Marines of Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 2 deploy frequently, mostly across the world, and being Johnny-on-the-spot with their cargo is essential. Cpl. Jene Vang, an embarkation chief with the squadron, is the mastermind behind the daily to and from cycling of cargo and personnel.
“The biggest challenge to this job is trying to set a date,” said Vang. “At the last second the plans could change, which means everything changes.”
Vang said his job consists of a lot of paperwork, but as soon as boots hit the ground during a deployment, the urgency gets turned up a notch. The first thing they plan once deployed is how everybody is going to get back home. It is what embark personnel call ‘retrograde.’
“The best part of this job is the travel,” said Vang. “This is the second most deployed MOS (military occupational specialty), right behind the grunts (infantry).”
