WASHINGTON - A Detroit native will be reporting for duties as a Marine drill instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., in late January.
Sgt. Alicia Roseman completed the Marine Corps Drill Instructor course Dec. 21 and will be leaving her current billet as an electrician at Marine Barracks Washington.
Roseman recently received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal during a ceremony at the Barracks for her support to and participation in numerous events and ceremonies conducted at the Barracks.
"It's a bittersweet moment for me," said Roseman. "I enjoyed my four years at the Barracks, but it's time for me to go."
Roseman is scheduled to report to the Fourth Recruit Training Battalion, where she will be training female Marine recruits.
"I'm really excited for what's in store for me at my next command," said Roseman. "I love a challenge and I know my next assignment it's going to test me mentally and physically."
The 31-year-old graduate of Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive School in Trinidad and Tobago, came to the United States when she was 20 years old and attended Wayne State University in Detroit before joining the Marine Corps in 2003.
In March, Roseman was also awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for involvement with the Young Marine program. The program teaches local youth the Corps' values and instills discipline into its young participants.
