HINESVILLE, Ga. -- Soldiers from 4-3 Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, volunteered their time, Nov. 18, to share their Army experiences with students at the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Ga., during the high school’s annual Career Expo.

Scott Carrier, principal of the Bradwell Institute, said Career Expo is held to introduce the school’s students to an array of occupations as the students make their post-high school plans.

“This is the age … when the students are typically … working hard trying to make that decision as to what they want to do for the rest of their lives,” Carrier said. “Our new theme that we’re working with is making sure our students graduate … career ready, so that when they leave Bradwell Institute upon graduation they’re either ready to go into the job force or they’re ready to go on to a secondary school.”

The “Sentinel” soldiers and leaders spoke to the Bradwell students over a series of four half-hour sessions, in which they discussed the paths that led each of them individually into the military. The soldiers also talked about their military occupational specialties, their combat deployments, and the travel opportunities the Army has provided them.

Second Lt. Derrick S. Doyle, a Philadelphia native and a transportation officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4-3 BSTB, said participating in Career Expo provided the students the opportunity to put faces to the military profession as well as providing a platform from which the students could ask questions about military life.

Doyle told the students that whatever they chose to do in their futures they need to maximize their potential, both personally and professionally.

“If you do that,” he told the students, “you will be ahead of your peers.”
