VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Tampa, Florida native and Radford High School class of 2001 graduate, Sgt. Matthew Carrizosa, raised his right hand, and pledged to continue honorably serving his country during a reenlistment ceremony aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, Nov. 14.
Carrizosa is currently serving as a data network specialist with Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Virginia Beach, Va.
Prior to checking into MCSCG, Carrizosa served as a data network specialist with Fourth Marine Regiment located at Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan from February 2009 until February 2011. During this tour, Carrizosa deployed for six months to the Republic of the Philippines in support of Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines, which is part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He has served on active duty for nearly 10 years. He initially enlisted in the Air Force in 2002 and served with them for six years until joining the Marine Corps in May 2008.
His parents Jeffrey and Pokye Higgins reside in Melbourne, Florida.
Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates United States Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities, to include assessment, planning, related education and training, and adviser support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Forces capacity and capability in order to facilitate USMC and regional Marine Forces component support to combatant commanders security cooperation objectives.
