SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District issued this statement following the meeting, Nov. 10, with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Board of Directors:
"We are pleased with the unanimous decision of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Board to approve the certification on water quality and coastal zone issues for the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project. We feel that cooperation with this agency is important to the overall success of the harbor expansion project. The decision protects the environment of both South Carolina and Georgia and allows us to move forward to complete the General Re-evaluation Report and Environmental Impact Statement in 2012."
