FOB KALSU, Iraq – Iraqi army soldiers and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers teamed up to come to the aid of a young local girl with an injury to her head Sunday in Hawr Rajeb.

IA soldiers from 5th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, treated the girl after she suffered a deep gash after bumping her head against a tree near her house.

The girl's father rushed her to an IA checkpoint manned by soldiers from 4th Bde., 6th IAD.

The checkpoint is relatively new to the area, and 1st Bn., 10th Cav. Regt. Soldiers have made it a priority to assist the IA in any way, said Staff Sgt. Bryan Stojsik, section leader, Company A, 1st Bn., 10th Cav. Regt.

"I like it when we are able to help people, especially children, instead of fighting terrorists," said Stojsik. "It is a nice change of pace."

The medics cleaned and stitched her wounds and sent her on her way with her father.

The wound she suffered was much less serious than the wounds the battalion's medics are used to treating, said Pvt. Ronald Manzano, medic, Co. A, 1st Bn., 10th Cav. Regt.

"I was very glad that I could help this little injured girl," he said. "It was like helping my own daughter. She was hesitant at first, but when it was all over, she was very happy."
