    VIRGINA BEACH, Va. -- Miami native and Coral Gables School class of 2004 graduate, Sgt. Jorge Rivero, raised his right hand, and pledged to continue honorably serving his country during a re-enlistment ceremony aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., Oct. 13.

    Rivero who is of Cuban decent, entered active military service in June 2004, and is currently serving as an infantry skills instructor for the Training Instructor Group of Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Virginia Beach, Va.
    Prior to checking into MCSCG, Rivero served as a squad leader with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment located in Camp Lejeune, N.C. from October 2004 until December 2007. During his tour there, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in the forward areas of Fallujah, Ramadi and Saqlawiyah, Iraq.

    Rivero’s wife Samantha, who also currently serves on active duty with the U.S. Navy and their 13-month-old son George reside in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

    His parents Jorge and Lourdes Rivero still reside in Miami, Florida area.

    Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates United States Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities, to include assessment, planning, related education and training, and advisor support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Forces capacity and capability in order to facilitate USMC and regional Marine Forces component support to combatant commanders security cooperation objectives.
