    KABUL, Afghanistan — A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province, yesterday.

    The leader places mines throughout the region and uses military uniforms to conduct ambush attacks against Afghan forces.

    In Maiwand district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a improvised explosive device cache while on patrol, today. The cache consisted of 385 pounds (175 kilograms) of homemade explosives, 70 pressure plates, 1000 feet (304 meters) of detonation cord, 500 rounds of small arms ammunition, and 500 rounds of large calibre ammunition. The force seized the items for safe disposal at a later date.

    A combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Kajaki district, Helmand province. The leader facilitates the distribution of explosives for use in insurgents attacks and oversees the taxation of illegal narcotic sales throughout the region.

    Multiple suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.
