SAN DIEGO – Rear Adm. Patrick H. Brady, commander, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, received the 2011 Hispanic Engineer of the Year Award at the annual Hispanics Engineer National Achievement Award Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Oct. 7.

The HENAAC award winners represented talented science, technology, engineering and math professionals who have achieved both academic and professional success in their respective fields.

“Engineering is seldom a solo venture; it takes the combined efforts of an extraordinary team. I am both honored and humbled to receive the engineer of the year award, not for myself, but on behalf of a great many people and organizations that I have been privileged to work with over the last 30 years,” said Brady upon receiving his award.

Additionally, a Military Luminary Award was presented to Navy Capt. Brian S. Lopez, executive officer of SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific. Lopez was recognized for his contributions to the Hispanic technical community as a leader and role model.

The purpose of the HENAAC award nomination process is to highlight and honor Hispanic role models who have been motivated students to pursue degrees and careers in STEM. [who would modify success stories, which wouldn’t be right. That would be correct, but would sound weird.

As the Navy’s Information Systems Dominance Command, SPAWAR has a robust STEM program that focuses on building networks within academia, government and industry communities to increase awareness regarding the importance of improving the scientific and technological literacy and competitiveness of the nation’s students.
