EDINBURGH, Scotland - The guided-missile frigate USS Carr departed Edinburgh, Scotland, Aug. 26, concluding a four-day port visit that was part of U.S. 6th Fleet efforts to build maritime global partnerships with European nations, and improve maritime safety and security.

While in port, Carr hosted a reception and conducted ship tours for civilian and military guests.

Carr sailors participated in several cultural heritage events while in Edinburgh, including the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Festival Fringe, International Festival and the International Book Festival.

“The architecture and history of Edinburgh are awe inspiring,” said Chief Petty Officer Joseph Wert. “The Edinburgh Military Tattoo was a moving experience. I have been to tattoos in the United States, but nothing comes close to comparing with the splendor of the event held on the Edinburgh Castle grounds.”

Following their visit to Edinburgh, Carr passed into the Arctic Circle and arrived in Tromso, Norway, Aug. 28, for a two-day visit to meet with local officials and experience the Norwegian culture.

For many Carr sailors, this was their first visit north of the Arctic Circle and they were excited to experience Norwegian culture and history in the Northern city.

“I’ve never been above the Arctic Circle,” said Lt. j.g. Mitch Harris, Carr’s training officer. “I’m excited to meet some residents and see what their culture has to offer.”

Carr is homeported out of Norfolk, Va., and is on a three-month deployment supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
