FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency officials visited Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Aug. 3, to discuss expanding DLA support to its NATO customers.

Steven Bernett, NAMSA director of logistics and former deputy commander at DLA Troop Support, met with leaders from the subsistence and medical supply chains to discuss how to put more DLA-procured food and medical products into NATO facilities.

DLA Troop Support Commander Navy Rear Adm. David Baucom said he was pleased to welcome Bernett and have the opportunity to expand the reach of DLA Troop Support to new customers.

“This visit is squarely in line with our goal to target new business opportunities,” Baucom said. “We look forward to working with this key stakeholder to explore the possibilities for expanded support in medical and subsistence,” he added.

Donald Buchwald, DLA Troop Support Medical director of customer operations, said the discussions are in the preliminary stages and officials will need to work through the legal business requirements in greater detail.

“We are excited about the opportunity to potentially expand our medical business to our NATO allies in Europe,” Buchwald said.

Bernett said NATO would like to expand its dining facility options to include more American-style meals. DLA Troop Support provides food for two NATO dining facilities in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and two in Kabul.

NATO logistics officials said DLA provides a wider variety of foods Americans enjoy, which has led to increased troop morale.
