    II Marine Expeditionary Force

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - On a hazy Friday morning, two platoons of Marines and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing band stood in formation in front of three EA-6B Prowlers aligned for the Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 2 change of command ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Aug. 12.

Lt. Col. Todd M. Caruso passed the reigns to Lt. Col. Adam M. Musoff during the ceremony and said goodbye to one of his most memorable experiences as a Marine.

“It was an amazing, fantastic experience,” said Caruso. “We’ve endured quite a lot of unique experiences and the Marines have been nothing short of excellent and successful when it comes to mission accomplishment.”

Caruso took command in November 2009 and will now assume executive officer duties of Marine Wing Support Group 27, right here on Cherry Point.

During Caruso’s tenure as commanding officer, VMAQ-2 endured several notable accomplishments and experiences that shaped the squadron into what’s been considered as the best Prowler squadron.

They received the Secretary of the Navy 2011 Safety Excellence Award for 2011 from Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, the 2010 Naval Aviation Safety Award, and most notably have been recognized for their actions after being attacked by Taliban insurgents during a deployment to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in 2010.

From the top-down, the Marines of VMAQ-2 keep safety as their top priority and that mindset has resulted in zero aviation mishaps, an impressive feat for averaging more than 100 combat sorties in their deployment in 2010.

“When we were deployed, we were called upon consistently and flew more combat sorties than any other Marine or Navy Prowler squadron,” Caruso said.

With big shoes to fill Musoff plans to hit the ground running with his Marines.

“This squadron has been in great hands and has been turned over in a flawless manner,” said Musoff.

Musoff brings a plethora of experience to the “Death Jesters” after most recently being assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation as the aviation weapons requirement branch 41 requirements officer.

With a plan to keep the squadron in full tilt, Musoff will lead VMAQ-2 for the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in the fall and for deployment to Afghanistan in the spring.
