SALAH AD DIN, Iraq - Senior Airman Paul Davis joined the Air Force at 168 pounds.

When he arrived at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, he weighed 203 pounds.

“I started to notice it and so did others, so I said I have to do something about this,” said Davis, 332nd Expeditionary Force Support Squadron Services journeyman, who is deployed from Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

Three months after arriving at JBB, Davis is well on his way of reaching his goal to weigh 175 pounds.

To accomplish this goal, Davis attended a core strength and conditioning class offered at the Housing 6 Gym by the 332nd EFSS four days a week.

Davis also follows a diet that requires 30 percent protein and fat and 40 percent carbohydrates at each meal, along with plenty of water.

“I like the class because it is a group activity that is competitive so it pushes me to want to be the best since I don’t want to finish last,” said the Omaha, Neb., native. “It also helps get your mind off stress here and at home as you get to meet different people from different branches.”

Davis did not come here with the intention of attending this class.

“Don’t listen to the rumors, give it a try and you will learn a lot,” he said.

Other advice he has is to, “come prepared to sweat and don’t think you know how to do something or you could get injured.”

With three more months to go on his deployment Davis also plans to gain more muscle and get his physical fitness test score in the 90-range.

Anyone interested in the class, should visit any gym at JBB.
