SALAH AD DIN, Iraq - A 332nd Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics planner deployed to Joint Base Balad, Iraq, to out-process and redeploy personnel.

About a month into Staff Sgt. Tassinda Ward’s deployment, she and an airman of hers were looking for something to change their schedule.

They both found that something in a “CrossFit” class offered by the 332nd Expeditionary Force Support Squadron Housing 6 Fitness Center, which led Ward to lose 16 pounds after five months.

“We both really love the class,” said Ward, who is deployed from Travis Air Force Base, Calif. “It’s better than just running and we still get a lot of cardio, even though we are not running.”

Ward explained that one of the things she liked about the class was that the workouts differ everyday of the month.

“I am constantly working new muscles and I have lifted more than I ever imagined I could,” said the Rosebud, Mo., native. “Plus you leave the class feeling amazing that you just had the best workout ever.”

Another aspect of the class that Ward liked are the instructors.

“The instructors are great and make the whole difference,” she said. “They teach the concepts and correct form so you won’t get injured, they definitely help you get the best out of your workout.”

Ward also had her airman to help her along the way.

“Having a wingman who is the same size and abilities helps and she pushes me and I can push her,” she said.

Ward credits the class with her recent Physical Training Test.

“For the first time I scored 96 points, I’ve never really been a runner and my runtime improved by 2 minutes and I did 20 more pushups on this test, so I think the class really did help,” she said.

Soon, Ward is scheduled to be reunited with her husband, Clint, and son, Austin.
