DAKAR, Senegal - Twenty Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, Detail Senegal, are less than a month away from completing renovations to a Senegalese operations center in Dakar, Senegal.

Rehabilitation of the building includes constructing numerous new office spaces, upgrading workspace electrical systems and installing local access network category 6 cable. Once complete, the Senegalese navy personnel will have a state-of-the-art facility from which to conduct operations.

According to Lt. Christopher James, Detail Senegal officer-in-charge, the renovations are also designed to allow for future expansion.

“The renovated operations center will last for years and years to come. The new electrical and network capabilities are designed for expansion and future technical upgrades as well,” said James.

Since June 6, Seabees and Senegalese navy personnel have been working together on the project. James said the opportunity to work with other coalition forces is one of the benefits of being part of a down-range detail.

“As a whole Detail Senegal is a great opportunity for Seabees to do an important renovation project at a very unique location. The crew thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to renovate the operations center and meet the Senegalese navy,” said James.

The Seabees of Detail Senegal are scheduled to complete their project later this month before rejoining the battalion’s main body deployed to Rota, Spain.
