GALVESTON, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a delivery order contract to J.M. Davidson Inc., a small business, in the amount of $17,904 for repair work of the mooring buoys at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and channel to Victoria mooring areas in Aransas County, Texas.
“These mooring buoys allow the towing industry to securely anchor their barges when sea conditions are too harsh to cross San Antonio Bay,” said USACE Galveston District Project Operations Branch Chief Ronny Beesley. “Additionally, the buoys allow tows to anchor during heavy fog and other inclement weather.”
According to Beesley, the Galveston District inspects mooring buoys quarterly as part of its mission of keeping America’s waterways open for navigation.
“This repair work is part of the district’s routine operations and maintenance,” said Beesley. “Work is scheduled to begin in early July and will last approximately 30 days.”
The USACE Galveston District was established in 1880 as the first engineer district in Texas to oversee river and harbor improvements. Since then, the district has expanded its mission to provide vital public engineering services in peace and war that strengthen the nation’s security, energize the economy by keeping waterways open for navigation and commerce, and reducing risks from disasters.
