PANJSHIR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team engineers assessed four active projects in Anaba and Dara districts, April 17.

The projects the PRT engineering team assessed included a district court center, two schools and a dormitory building.

“With 17 active (construction) projects in the province this was a typical day for us,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Eric Garcia, PRT engineering team member and Corpus Christi, Texas, native.

The team inspects each project at least twice a week.

“We try to inspect the projects constantly because each step in a construction project is important,” said Daniel Fredrickson, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representative with Panjshir PRT and Battleground, Wash., native. “We want to make sure everything is done correctly because once it’s done, it’s very hard to go back and fix it.”

One of the four projects the team evaluated included Molark Morza Shahid Boys School in Abdullah Khil Village.

“We wanted to make sure work was started before the river rose so the contractor could have all the materials and supplies here on site to build throughout the entire construction season,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Brian Jackson, the PRT lead engineer and South Haven, Mich., native.

The assessment marked the first time the PRT engineers observed workers on site for the boys school.

“This project looks much better than the last time we were here because there are workers on site and all the necessary equipment and materials have been delivered,” said Jackson.

Malem Sorab, the Dara District Governor, met the team at the work site.

“We really appreciate the PRT’s work with the contractors to get this project started,” said Sorab, through an interpreter. “The school we have now only has six classrooms and there are many students.”

Molark Morza Shahid will be two stories with 16 classrooms and should be completed by the beginning of the next construction season.
