Cultural support teams provide medical care for women, children in Gizab

URUZGAN, Afghanistan - A group of coalition medics assigned to a cultural support team partnered with local Afghan doctors April 1 to treat women and children and provide hygiene education at a local clinic near the village of Gizab in Uruzgan province.

The engagement is part of a larger effort to provide medical care and health education for local villages to increase support and capacity for the district and provincial levels of government in Uruzgan.

Female coalition doctors performed wellness exams on infants and adult women and provided treatment for those in need. After a class on dental hygiene, local citizens were provided toothbrushes and other materials to promote oral health.

Gizab elders said the engagement was positive step forward in providing much needed medical care for families in their village.

"This engagement allowed us to strengthen relationships and build trust and rapport with the people of Gizab," said a Coalition medical representative. "The reception for local villagers was very encouraging and we will continue to provide this kind of training and medical care for local citizens."
