    BAGHDAD - The 1st Train the Trainers Course for the Iraqi Oil Police held a closing ceremony at the Forward Operating Base, Camp Dublin, in Baghdad Feb. 3. The T3 course was conducted by the Italian Carabinieri of the NTM-I Gendarmerie Training Unit on a training program lasting one month and started last Jan. 2.

    The course was attended by the students selected from the 120 Iraqi policemen trained during the first oil police course that was concluded after two months of intensive training last Dec. 9, 2010.

    Twenty-one students from the Iraqi Oil Police, 5 officers, 3 senior noncommissioned officers, and 13 NCOs, graduated the course and will play an important role as trainers during the advanced state of restructuring of the Iraqi security forces.

    NTM-I Deputy Commander, MG Claudio Angelelli; Gendarmerie Training Division commander, Col. Fausto Vignola; ITAM police head, Brig. Gen. Smith; Commander of the Iraqi Federal Police, Gen. Hussain; Commander and Deputy Commander of the Oil Police, MG Hamid and BG Salah were among those who attended the ceremony.

    The Oil Police Commander, Hamid, expressed his appreciation of the valid work done by the Italian Carabinieri during the ceremony, and asked Angelelli and Vignola to double the number of students for future courses from the current 120 to 250.

    The Italian Carabinieri, currently also conducting the second Oil Police training course, has achieved outstanding results in the training field both in quality of training and in terms of the quantity of courses offered to the Iraqi police.

    The NTM-I Gendarmerie Training Division ran by the Italian Carabinieri has offered to the Iraqi Federal Police the following courses since the second half of 2007:

    - 15 Leadership Training course training 9878 policemen with 9443 graduating;

    - 11 T3 courses in accordance with the Train the Trainers program, graduating 132 Iraqi policemen from 145 students;

    - 4 T5 courses for trainers of advanced level, graduating 116 Iraqi policemen (29 already graduated as T3);

    - 31 courses in different areas (crowd riot control, police procedures, territory's control, self defence, combat training, weapons skills) with a total of 330 graduated;

    - 4 special courses offered by Team on Call of the Carabinieri graduating 116 Iraqi policemen in matters such as explosives, night shooting and building clearance.
