CHARLESTON, S.C. — Staff Sgt. Kimberly D. Calkins was named the Veteran of the Month by the Rotary Club of Charleston at a ceremony at The Citadel Alumni Building, Nov. 30.
Calkins works fulltime as a Public Affairs specialist for the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Charleston, S.C.
The Veteran of the Month award is a distinction that is given to military veterans who give back to their community and continue to serve.
Calkins was presented the award by Medal of Honor recipient, Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston.
In 2009, Calkins was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Unit Public Affairs Representative.
She graduated from Indiana State University with a Masters in Fine Art in 1997 and then earned a Bachelor of Science in 1998.
Her military awards include; Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals.
