KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces captured another Haqqani Network facilitator during an operation in Khost province yesterday.

The facilitator is the 17th Haqqani leader captured during non-kinetic operations, meaning no precision air strikes or shots fired, in the province this month.

The facilitator was actively involved in the construction of improvised explosive devices and facilitated the movement of IED material within his network.

The security force followed intelligence tips to a remote compound north of Sewakay in Terayzai district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the compound. After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the facilitator and one of his associates.
Meanwhile in Farah province, a separate joint security force detained several suspected insurgents as they targeted a key foreign-fighter facilitator in Farah district last night.

The forces conducted the operation to capture the individual, a Taliban leader, after intelligence reports indicated his recent return to Afghanistan from Iran.

The Taliban leader provides a conduit for foreign fighters from an array of terrorist networks, including Al Qaeda, to enter the country and fight for the Taliban. The insurgent acts on behalf of terrorist cells to move foreign fighters into Farah and Helmand via Iran.

Afghan forces conducted a call out before the joint security force conducted the search. The forces discovered an assault rifle and chest rack during the search. The Afghan and coalition forces detained the suspects based on initial questioning at the scene.

The joint security teams conducted the operations in the hours of darkness to minimize the risk to local citizens. No women or children were injured or detained during these operations.

The security forces conducted the operations without firing their weapons.
