BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Sgt. Christopher Roof, a member of the 46th Military Police Command, has one of the most difficult tasks in the Army; he is the unit supply sergeant. Every day there is someone who needs something new or different and it is Roof’s job to find a way to get it for them. Roof started his military career in the Michigan Air National Guard and spent three years there doing supply before deciding to transfer to the Michigan Army National Guard.
He transferred to the Army National Guard, because he wanted to work for the guard full-time. “The supply job is very diverse, it keeps you on your toes, you get to make people happy, “Roof said. “The most difficult part of the job is that it requires you to decide which priority to put on each order.”
Getting to Afghanistan was probably one of the most difficult jobs he has had to accomplish, he said.
“We had to move the HHC 46th MPC three times in the last year in preparation for the deployment, I had to pack up two times for two different annual trainings in preparation for the deployment,” he said. “It was a very challenging job and I was up for the task.”
Roof joined the Army National Guard, because in the Air Guard he wasn’t able to deploy. He sent out 30 different packets to three different states trying to find a full-time job that would give him the opportunity to deploy.
“Being deployed with the 46th MP Command has been the most rewarding part of my career so far. I hope to gain experience and a broader knowledge of the military supply system during the next year,” Roof said.
