KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban weapons facilitator operating in Khugyani District of Nangarhar province during an overnight operation in the province Nov. 13.
The facilitator procured machine guns and rockets from Peshawar, Pakistan, to use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
Intelligence tips led the security force to a compound outside of Jalalabad city to search for the facilitator, who reportedly commands and controls more than 50 fighters. After securing the area, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully. During questioning, the facilitator identified himself as the targeted individual in the operation before the security force detained him.
The security force conducted a battle-space handover with the local Afghan National Police force before departing the area. The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
