KABUL, Afghanistan – An International Security Assistance Force observation post located on the Jalalabad city airport property was attacked in Behsud district, Nangarhar province Saturday.
An Afghan National Security and ISAF quick reaction force responded to the attack, securing the area and killing six insurgents. After the failed attack, the combined force recovered two suicide vests, multiple weapons and grenades near the dead insurgents.
No ANSF or ISAF service members were killed during this attack.
Initially ISAF received multiple reports indicating two separate attacks were carried out. It has been determined it was a single attack on the observation post, which is near the airport.
Today’s attack is the second failed attack on an eastern outpost in the past two weeks. Oct. 30 insurgents launched an attack against an ISAF observation post in Bermal district of Paktika province. ISAF confirmed more than 40 insurgents were killed in that failed attack, while Afghan officials estimated between 80-100 insurgents killed.
“ISAF will continue to work with our Afghan partners to establish a safe and peaceful Afghanistan and will not be deterred by these failed attacks.” said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
