NAVAL STATION GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba - High Speed Vessel 2 Swift visited Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to take on stores and fuel Nov. 8-9.
The Fleet Industrial Supply Center Jacksonville-Guantanamo Bay detachment provided Swift and its crew with fresh food and vegetables, water, and 67,063 gallons of diesel fuel.
“We can provide ships with fuel, stores, and have capabilities to do personnel transfers, support liberty calls through Morale, Welfare, and Recreation, and offer ships a venue to perform maintenance on their vessel,” said Cmdr. James Thornton, NAVSTA’s operations officer.
NAVSTA Guantanamo Bay also provides ships with the ability to perform ship wash-downs before entering the U.S. or another country’s port, said Thornton.
“We help keep readiness levels of the fleet high any time a ship is operating over our horizon,” said Thornton.
Swift, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is providing humanitarian aid and supplies to several ports in the South American region as part of Southern Partnership Station 2011.
