KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed one insurgent during an operation in Shah Wali Kot District, Kandahar province, Thursday.
The patrol was searching a village where they found improvised explosive device materials. Simultaneously, an armed insurgent was spotted nearby and presented a threat to the security force and was killed.
The patrol then searched a nearby compound where they found a small amount of wet opium, a number of IED components and an AK-47 with associated ammunition.
The narcotics, weapons and IED components were safely destroyed on site.
