CLARK AIR BASE, Republic of the Philippines - Sailors with Marine Air Logistics Squadron 36, Marine Air Group 36, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, established a flight line medical aid station here, Oct. 9. Comprised of 22 corpsman and doctors, the medical staff is prepared to treat a wide variety of ailments Marines and their Filipino counterparts may encounter during the upcoming Amphibious Landing Exercise 2011, Oct. 14-22.
Phiblex ‘11 is a bilateral training exercise between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, part of the long-term security program between the two countries. By training in the Philippines, it allows the medical personnel of 3rd MEB to hone their skills in a joint, expeditionary environment unlike many other places in the world.
The expeditionary aid station is fully capable of providing first response medical treatment in the event aid is required said Petty Officer 2nd Class Ricardo Martinez, assistant leader petty officer for Phiblex ’11, MALS-36.
“In the event of an incident here on the flight line, our corpsmen would be en route to the scene seconds afterward,” said Martinez.
Marines that show for medical attention at the aid station receive treatment similar to sick call at any other Navy medical facility, said Petty Officer 2nd Class Loreto Cruz, a corpsman with MAG-36.
“We provide sick call services to Marines, but we are much more mobile,” said Martinez
Since arriving here the flight line aid station staff has treated approximately 130 patients from aliments such as upper respiratory infection, gastro intestinal disease and heat exhaustion.
