    III Marine Expeditionary Force

FORT BONIFACIO, Republic of Philippines - U.S. Marines with Radio Data Team, Company B, 7th Communications Battalion, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade established global communications here Oct. 5.

Comprised of only six Marines, the RDT is responsible for establishing and maintaining all communication capability for Brigade leadership for the upcoming Amphibious Landing Exercise 2011, Oct. 14-22.

Phiblex ‘11 is a bilateral training exercise between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, part of the long-term security program between the two countries.

“It is imperative for the commander to achieve and maintain communications at all times,” said Gunnery Sgt. Stuart McFaden staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge of Radio Data Team, Company B, 7th Communications Battalion, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade. “Phiblex is perfect example of how communications Marines and the ECCS makes that happen.”

Connecting the Expeditionary Command and Control Suite allows the Phiblex ‘11 command element to have a constant flow of voice and data traffic between its subordinate commands.

“There are a number of options available for connecting the ECCS in a rear operating base or a forward deployed environment,” said Sgt. David Pagan, team leader for RDT, 3rd MEB.

The ECCS Suite is designed to look like a suitcase while withstanding any environment or weather damage, said Pagan.

“Proper communication is imperative any unit or command to maintain operation cohesion,” said McFaden.

“[Communication] is the core of our mission,” said McFaden.
