MOSUL, Iraq - The Fuzz Band rocked the house at the Community Activity Center on Forward Operating Base Marez, Mosul, Iraq, Feb. 26.
The Hampton, Va. based band is on a two-week tour of different FOB's in Iraq.
"We came here because we were asked to come here," said Paul Saunders, band manager. "We wanted to give Soldiers a little taste of back home, and create a space in time where they can free their minds and give them time to escape."
The band is endorsed by such companies as R.J. Reynolds and Budweiser and is selected as an international touring band for the U.S. Military. The band has gathered such accolades as "Best Live Band", "Best Rock Band" and "Best New Contemporary Jazz Band."
According to Saunders, the group is composed of individuals who love music. Their musical backgrounds range from gospel, jazz, rock, soul, hip-hop and classical.
"That's why we named it the Fuzz Band; there are no limits, no boundaries of what they can perform." Saunders said.
The band recently released "Collision" - a follow up to their "Without Boundaries" debut.
K"bana Blaq, another lead vocalist, said of his Iraq tour experience, "It is an honor to be here, to have the opportunity to make Soldiers feel good with some good music sounded like an awesome idea, the Soldiers have been amazing."
The Fuzz band expressed that during their tour, they have observed the dedication and reality of what Soldiers experience on a daily basis, and seeing them committed to doing what they are doing is exceptional.
"Everybody wants to do their part and come over," said Michon David, vocalist, "This was our opportunity to bring joy and uplift others, it's touching to see Soldiers having a great time, it's definitely an honor to be here."
